According to the season you can choose to ride through vineyards and woods or in summer high up in the stunning mountain pastures.

Horse lovers should visit The ‘Haras National de Pau-Gelos’ is a national stud farm that specialises in sport horses such as the Anglo-Arab and local breeds like the Mérens and the sturdy Basque pony – the pottock.

Set in an elaborately wooded park, the stud farm consists of an 18th century château, a blacksmith shop, laboratories, stables and tack rooms.

Drag Hunting

Join the historic Pau hunt (founded in 1840) on an experienced horse over natural obstacles in the most beautiful setting with the snow-covered Pyrenees in background.

Even if you do not ride, you can still follow and enjoy the post hunt meal.

Rock Climbing

The area boasts over twenty cliffs for climbing, within the 3 valleys of Ossau, Aspe and Barétous.

The Pyrenees of Béarn are also home to one of the highest indoor climbing gyms in southwestern France, in the town of Oloron Sainte-Marie.


A good choice of courts locally - one open air court at Gurs and three at Navarrenx.  Oloron tennis club boasts eight open air with a choice of surfaces and three indoor courts.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Enjoy the tranquillity of a clear mountain lake from your canoe


Available to anyone who can swim 25m with qualified staff. On your return there are showers and a picnic area to enjoy.

Zip line

Summer or winter a true 200m adrenalin rush.

Parachute Jumping

Strictly for any adrenalin junkies - if you have no experience try a tandem jump with a pro.


Still exciting but safely on terra firma.

Paint Balling

Take to the countryside and test the speed of your reflexes.

Hot-Air Ballooning

Viewing the scenery of the region from a hot air balloon is an absolute delight as you float gently over lovely forests, mountains and rivers.
