Once a year in mid-May the streets of Pau are turned into a race track – the oldest city racing circuit in the world which held the first Grand Prix in 1901.
The race has seen some illustrious past winners from Fangio in 1949 to the likes of Jackie Stewart and Emerson Fittipaldi.
Although there has only been Formula Three for some years now and a more recent winner was a young Lewis Hamilton who clocked 260kph when he won here in 2005.
The following weekend sees the Grand Prix Historique. A festival for classic cars, not only races but parades around the streets.
